Today I had the chance to test the XBody workout machine at Haraigoshi Dojo- our partner in Yagadome Training Camp Brazil.
The device is an EMS (Electric Muscle Stimulation) protocol based, where participants are using special bodysuit with many electrodes, making direct contact with the skin and making the muscle contract with frequency and power, controlled by the machine operator.
Apparently, the technology was developed for NASA, to be used by astronauts in space, to avoid atrophy (I definitely felt like Id be going in the space when trying out the bodysuit).
The workouts are designed to last 20 min and the machine operator can increase or decrease intensity of the electric impulses in specific areas, according to the athlete preference or physical state, which is really good for rehab patients or injured athletes, because it could take the load off specific area, while still able to do a full on workout sessions.
The protocol by itself is simple- with very light weights (or even without any), one has to perform the usual push/ pull motions for both, upper and lower part of the body, while the bodysuit is constantly stimulating the entire body through the electric sensors.
The entire session was intense and the end got me looking at the clock several times.
My muscles felt really relaxed about an hour after the workout and I had a deep REM sleep the same night.
When I woke up the next morning, I felt quite sore and then I remembered I was told that the real muscle pain will be felt 36 hours after the workout.
Im afraid how Im going to feel for tomorrow morning’s wrestling…
